Hole plugs are installed on the sides and end sides of the cylinder block, which are squeezed out of the block in case of freezing of the coolant. On the side of the coolant drain plug on the cylinder block, there are two plugs with a diameter of 34 mm, and on the opposite side (from the oil filter) there are two more plugs of the same diameter. On the end side of the crankcase there is one plug 5 (see fig. 67) 17 mm in diameter. Another stub 2 (see fig. 66) with a diameter of 34 mm is pressed on the front end side of the cylinder block. These plugs can be changed in case of freezing of the coolant without removing the engine, but using a special tool. To do this, you must perform the following operations:
- drain the coolant;
- remove parts and assemblies that may interfere with access to the plugs;

Pic. 70. Removing the plug from the block
- place a narrow chisel or a powerful screwdriver under the edge of the plug (pic. 69) and using a hammer, turn the plug in the hole 90°around its axis (pic. 70);
- grab the plug with pipe pliers and pull it out of the cylinder block, as shown in fig. 70;
- carefully clean the seating hole of the plug in the cylinder block. There must be no traces of grease on the sealing surface;
- smear the mounting hole with Loctite and insert a new plug using a special mandrel (specification number — 102 589 00 15 00) or another suitable mandrel so that it is flush with the surface of the cylinder block;
- install all the removed parts in their places and after a pause of 45 minutes, pour coolant into the engine if it has not been removed from the car;
- then start the engine and check it for leaks.
