Pic. 292. Removal and installation of parking brake pads: 1 - brake shoe; 2 - return spring of the drive lever; 3 - adjusting gear; 4 - drive lever
For work, the tool mentioned above for removing and installing brake pad springs is required. Otherwise, you can remove the rear wheel hubs to provide easy access to the pads. On fig. 292 shows the details of the removed pads. The removal of the pads on one side is described below, however, if one pad fails, they should be replaced as a set on both sides.
When removing the parking brake pads, perform the following operations:
- remove the front parking brake cable from the fixing in the equalizer. To do this, unscrew the draft regulator until the cable can be removed;

- loosen the adjusting eccentric of the equalizer (pic. 293) to loosen the tension of the cables;
- remove the rear brake disc as described above. If the disc does not come off, you still need to loosen the cable by unscrewing the equalizer adjuster nut;
- turn setting gear 3 with a screwdriver (see fig. 292), as shown, for the maximum possible convergence of the pads;
- remove the parking brake cable from the lock of the lever 4 of the drive;
Pic. 294. Removing return springs with a special puller
- install tool 112 589 09 061 00 (pic. 294), compress the spring and turn it about 90°, then disengage the shield and remove. Turn the spring until it disengages. Also remove the second shoe spring. Vertically mounted spring 2 (see fig. 292) remove in the same way, but install the puller from above;
- remove the lower return spring with pliers;
- spread both pads from the bottom as wide as possible so that they can be passed through the flange of the rear axle shaft. The setting gear will then fall out or can be removed in advance.
When installing the pads, proceed as follows:
- apply Molykote paste on the working surfaces of the block drive lever lock;
- fasten the parking brake cable in the lock with a pin;
- apply a long-term lubricant to the thread of the stop and the cylindrical part of the adjusting gear;
- assemble the adjusting mechanism and set it to the extreme position;
- insert the adjusting mechanism into the shoes as shown in fig. 292 (gear down);
- in front, install the upper return spring on the block;
- spread the pads at the bottom, thread through the flange of the rear axle shaft and secure it in the lever lock;
- hook the pressure springs on the side in the pads;
- puller (see fig. 294) compress the spring through the hole in the flange and, turning it by 90°, fix it in the brake shield;
- hook the large eye of the return spring with a hook and thread it into the second block;
- install the brake disc and caliper;
- adjust the parking brake.
