Replacing the front disc brake pads
Replacing the rear wheel disc brake pads
Assessment of the degree of wear
1. Assess the degree of wear of the brake pads through the inspection windows in the brake calipers. Operating a vehicle with pads worn below the permissible limit can result in damage to the rib between the sealing groove and the dust boot of the wheel cylinder piston.
2. Make sure there are no signs of developing fluid leaks, if necessary, check the system for leaks (see Section Checking the brake system for leaks).
3. Check the calipers (31a/31b) for signs of leaks and replace them if necessary (see Section Removal and installation the caliper).
Replacement
1. If equipped, disconnect the brake pad wear sensor connector (1) and remove it - defective sensors must be replaced.
2. Using a suitable punch (035), knock out the mounting pins (41).
3. Remove the spring retainer (41b).
4. If necessary, using a lever resting against the caliper body through a wooden spacer, remove the pads (43) from the calipers (31a/31b).
5. Using a special clamp (031), press back the wheel cylinder piston, if necessary, first pumping out some brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir.
6. Clean the shoe guides - do not use tools with sharp cutting edges to clean the guides.
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - the pads equipped with gaskets (43b) should be lubricated with Cu-7439 grease before installation.
8. Finally, check the brake fluid level and make the appropriate adjustments if necessary.
