Brake pads must be replaced if the thickness of the friction lining layer is less than 2.0 mm.
Raise the vehicle and remove the front wheels.
In Teves calipers, remove the protective cover (see fig. 241), using a beard, remove the fastening pins of the pads and the spring cruciform bracket (see fig. 242).

In Bendix calipers, remove both safety pins, remove the pins of the pads and the spring clip.
When reusing brake pads, they must be marked and then removed before removal. When replacing brake pads, simply remove the old pads.
Carefully clean the cavities in the brake pad caliper with a brush, as shown in fig. 243, and check the condition of the dust rings on the cylinders.

With severe wear of the brake pads, it is necessary to push the pistons in the brake cylinders. Pay attention to the level of brake fluid in the reservoir and, if necessary, suck out some of the fluid. In addition, check the position of the notch on the piston relative to the guide surface of the brake pad. Check the position of the piston using a template (see fig. 244), when properly installed, the lug on the front caliper pistons should be at the bottom.
On the surface of the base of the brake shoe, shown by arrows in fig. 245, apply a layer of Molycote paste "u" or Liqui-Moly 36.
Install new brake pads.
Install the spring caliper in the Teves caliper or the spring caliper and brake pad pins in the Bendix caliper.
In the Bendix caliper, insert the safety cotter pins into the fingers.
