Checking the poly V-belt for wear and damage (Mercedes-Benz Vito W639)

1. Rotate the engine using the starter. To do this, you need to perform the following steps.

1.1. Turn off the ignition.

1.2. Disconnect the electrical connector (4) of the pressure regulating valve (3).

1.3. Connect the compression test device (1). To do this, in turn, you need to perform the following steps.

1.3.1. Remove the relay and fuse box cover.

1.3.2. Remove the starter relay (5).

1.3.3. Connect the compression test device wire terminal to the socket (6).

1.3.4. Connect the other terminal of the device to the "+" terminal.

1.3.5. Disconnect the device in the reverse order.

1.4. Rotate the engine with the starter by pressing the button (2) on the compression tester (1).

1.5. Disconnect the device (1).

2. Check the poly V-belt for wear and damage

B. Belt V-ribs are worn out - edges are sharpened (the new one has a trapezoid chamfer)
C. The cord threads protrude onto the surface of the belt edges
D. Transverse cracking of rubber on the back side of the belt
E. The wedge ribs are torn from the base of the belt
F. Wear of the surface cord threads
G. There are cord burrs
H. Transverse cracks on the working surface
J. Destruction of wedge ribs
K. Separate breaks in wedge ribs
L. Dirt or small stones embedded in the rib material
M. Rubber defects at the base of the ribs


3. If the damage described above is present, replace the belt
