Every 24,000 km check the drive belt and adjust its tension. Inspect the belt along its entire length for possible cracks and wear, and rotate the engine to check the surfaces of the belt in contact with the pulleys. Replace defective belt.
1. On vehicles with power steering, air conditioning (compressor) remove their drive belts first.
2. Disconnect the wire «masses» from the battery.
3. Loosen the set bolts and nuts of the alternator and slide it towards the cylinder block.
4. Remove the drive belt from the alternator, water pump pulleys and crankshaft and slide the belt over the fan blades.
5. Slide the new belt over the pulleys and tension it by turning the head of the ratchet bolt in contact with the rack.
6. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts and nuts and connect the negative battery terminal.
7. Let the engine run for a few minutes with all electrical components connected, stop the engine and re-adjust the belt tension.
