Camshaft — Removal and Installation (Mercedes-Benz Vario 814)

Removal



1. Drain the engine oil.

2. Remove the engine.

3. Remove the rocker arms and rocker arm shaft.

4. Remove the push rods 3 (figure 3.9)

5. Remove the fuel pump.

6. Remove all pumps.

7. Turn the engine crankshaft 180° so that the push rods 4 touch the camshaft 1.

8. Remove the tray.

9. Remove the camshaft position sensor B16 from the cylinder block. Replace sealing ring 2 and press the sensor so that it rests against the camshaft pulley.

10. Remove the timing belt cover 6.

11. Remove camshaft 1 from the cylinder block.

12. Remove the push rods from the cylinder block.

Installation



13. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Check the pushrods 4. Check the hardness, concentricity and profile of the camshaft 1 lobes:

  • Hardness of camshaft cams and bearing journals: 57-63 HRC.
  • Cam lobe profile, cam lobe protrusion above base circle: inlet valve - 7.3 mm, exhaust valve - 8.2 mm.
  • Deviation of the concentricity of the camshaft when it is mounted on external supports: the main circumference of the cam - 0.025 mm, all bearing journals - 0.030 mm.
  • Push rod outer diameter: standard - 17.944-17.965 mm, repair (0.25 mm) - 18.194-18.215 mm.
  • The hole in the cylinder block for the push rod is standard - 18.000-18.018 mm repair (0.25 mm) - 18.250-18.268 mm.
