The oil pump is driven via a drive clutch from the front end of the crankshaft and is located in the timing chain cover.

1. Remove the drive chain cover.

2. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the oil pickup pipe and gasket (see fig. Removing the oil intake pipe).

3. Unscrew the bolts and remove the oil pump cover (see Fig. Removing the oil pump cover).

4. Remove the outer and inner rotors of the oil pump, noting their relative positions (see fig. Removing the inner rotor of the oil pump, Removing the outer rotor of the oil pump).

5. On the side of the drive chain cover, unscrew the oil pressure relief valve plug and remove the gasket, spring and plunger (see fig. Unscrewing the pressure relief valve plug, Removing the pressure relief valve spring, Removing the pressure relief valve plunger).

6. Thoroughly clean all oil pump parts and check their condition. If the rotors are worn, they must be replaced as a set. If the oil pump housing or cover is worn, the drive chain cover must be replaced. A new drive chain cover is supplied with the oil pump.

7. Remove the O-ring from the oil feed pipe at the rear of the pump (see Fig. Removing the O-ring from the oil supply pipe).

Installation

Filling the space between the teeth of the oil pump rotors with clean motor oil

1. Install the outer and inner rotors into the oil pump housing according to the marks made earlier. Fill the space between the teeth of the outer and inner rotor of the oil pump with clean engine oil (see fig. Filling the space between the teeth of the oil pump rotors with clean motor oil).

2. Install the oil pump cover and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

3. Install a new oil pickup tube gasket with the rounded edge of the gasket facing the top of the timing chain cover.

4. Install the oil pickup pipe and secure with two bolts.

5. Install a new O-ring onto the oil feed pipe at the rear of the oil pump.

6. Lubricate the plunger of the oil pressure relief valve with a thin layer of engine oil and install the plunger, spring, sealing ring in sequence and screw in the plug, tightening it to the required torque.

7. Install the drive chain cover.
