PARKTRONIC system (PTS) (Mercedes-Benz Vito W639)

Contents: Sensor range ↡ Manual transmission ↡ Automatic transmission ↡ Signaling devices ↡
The PARKTRONIC system is an electronic distance signaling device to prevent collisions when parking and signals you optically and acoustically about the distance between your car and an obstacle.

The PARKTRONIC system is automatically activated when you turn on the ignition and release the parking brake.

At speeds above 18 km/h the PARKTRONIC system is switched off. At lower speeds, the PARKTRONIC system is switched on again.

The PARKTRONIC system monitors the parking situation using six sensors in the front bumper and four sensors in the rear bumper surrounding your vehicle.

Sensor range

The sensors must be free of dirt, ice and snow, otherwise they cannot function properly. Clean the sensors regularly to avoid scratching or damaging them.

Sensor range

Front sensors
  • 8 in the middle - about 100 cm
  • At the corners - about 70 cm

Rear sensors
  • In the middle - about 160 cm
  • At the corners - about 100 cm

Minimum distance
  • In the middle - about 30 cm
  • At the corners - about 25 cm

Pay particular attention when parking to objects that are below or above the sensors, such as flower pots or trailer drawbars. The PARKTRONIC system does not recognize such objects in the vicinity. They can damage your car.

The operation of the PARKTRONIC system may be disrupted due to the presence of ultrasound sources (for example, the pneumatic brake system of trucks or a pneumatic hammer), the presence of attachments on the vehicle, such as, for example, systems for transporting cargo or bicycles.

If there is an obstacle in this zone, all the indicators light up and a warning sound sounds. If the distance is less than the minimum, then this distance may not be displayed.

Signaling devices

The alarms show the distance between the sensors and the obstacle. The indicator for the front zone is located in the middle of the instrument panel. The rear zone indicator is located at the rear in the headlining.

Front Zone Alarm:
  • 1. Left side of the car
  • 2. Right side of the car

The indicator is divided into six yellow and two red segments for each side of the vehicle.

If the first yellow segment lights up at half power, the PARKTRONIC system is ready for measurement.

If only the red segments of all the indicators are lit, then there is a malfunction. Activation of the alarms is determined by the direction of the vehicle's movement.

If your car approaches an obstacle, one or more segments will light up depending on the distance,

Starting from the first red segment, you will hear an additional warning sound for approximately three seconds. In this case, the distance is reduced to a minimum.

The system is switched on and off by alternately pressing button 1. When the system is switched on, indicator 2 lights up. When a trailer is installed, the PARKTRONIC system for the rear part is switched off.
