Parktronic system (PTS) (Mercedes-Benz M-Class W163)

0
PTS provides the driver with information about the distance to an obstacle when parking the car.

When driving forward, only the front sensors are activated. When driving in reverse, both the rear and front risk zones are monitored.

The system is switched on automatically when the ignition key is turned to position 2 and remains active until the vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h; the system is also switched off automatically.

Reactivation of PTS occurs when the vehicle speed drops below 15 km/h.

It is possible to force the PTS to be switched off using a switch installed on the console section of the instrument panel (see Section Interior controls and equipment).

Attention! The correct functioning of the Parktronic system largely depends on the degree of contamination of the ultrasonic sensors mounted in the front and rear bumper covers. Interference may be caused by ultrasonic sources (including the screeching of air brakes of trucks).

The front risk zone is monitored by six ultrasonic sensors mounted in the front bumper trim (two in the middle and two in each corner, the rear - four sensors in the rear bumper. The range of the sensors is 100 cm for the central front sensors, 60 cm for the corner front sensors, 120 cm for the central rear sensors and 80 cm for the outer rear sensors. The minimum permissible distance between the sensor and the obstacle is 15 cm for the corner sensors and 20 cm for the central ones, after which the sensitivity threshold is exceeded. Keep the bumper surfaces clean.

Special indicator lights are provided on the instrument panel (see illustration 15.1) and in the assembly of the rear interior light.

The indicators are divided into two sections with 6 yellow and 2 red segments in each - the full activation of the segments corresponds to the distance to the nearest obstacle. About dangerous approach to an obstacle (activation of red indicator segments) the driver is warned by a 3-second acoustic signal.

2 - Right side of the risk zone

When connecting the trailer wiring to the towbar connector (with the appropriate vehicle configuration) the system automatically switches off.

In case of malfunction of PTS, red segments of all light indicators of the system are activated and a 3-second acoustic signal is emitted - check the cleanliness of bumper surfaces. If necessary, drive the car to a Mercedes-Benz service station to perform the necessary restorative repair of the system.
