Rules for parking a car on a slope
General information
When leaving the car in a parking lot, be sure to set the parking brake. The parking brake has a pedal drive, the parking brake setting pedal is located on the left in the driver's footwell. Remember that the parking brake setting indicator light built into the instrument panel only serves to remind the driver of the need to release it before starting to move. Activation of the indicator light does not guarantee that the parking brake is fully set.
On models with AT, the automatic transmission range selector lever must be moved to the "P" position after the parking brake is applied. This sequence of actions prevents accidental starting of the vehicle and eliminates the transfer of significant load to the transmission locking mechanism from the force rolling the vehicle. Unloading the transmission ensures that the lever can be easily moved out of the "P" position when the vehicle starts moving.
When parking your car on a hill, turn the front wheels away from the curb, and vice versa.
Before driving, make sure that the parking brake is fully released - the parking brake release handle is located on the left under the instrument panel. Driving with the parking brake not fully released may cause overheating and failure of the rear wheel brakes, in addition, this may lead to malfunction of the ABS.
Note: If equipped, attempting to move off with the parking brake engaged will trigger a warning buzzer to alert the driver to release the brake.
Recommendations for safe parking of a car
Make sure that the automatic transmission is in position "P"; on models with manual transmission, engage first or reverse gear.
To lock the steering column, turn the key in the ignition switch to position 0.
Make sure the roof hatch and all windows are closed.
Turn off all lights and other on-board electrical consumers.
Place valuables in lockable storage boxes or take them with you.
Lock the doors with a single lock using the remote control.
Make sure that the anti-theft alarm control LED (EDW) located on the console section of the instrument panel is activated correctly.
Never leave the vehicle with the engine running in areas covered with dry leaves, tall grass or other flammable materials - remember that the catalytic converter housing can heat up to very high temperatures, which can cause a fire.
