- When the engine is running, the components of the exhaust system can heat up to very high temperatures - try not to touch the hot parts and do not park on areas covered with flammable objects (fallen leaves, dry grass, debris, etc.).
- Do not use leaded gasoline to refuel a car equipped with a catalytic converter - the lead contained in it in a high concentration is deposited on the surfaces of the working element of the converter, significantly reducing its efficiency.
- Make sure the engine settings and adjustments are correct. Deviations in the operating parameters of the ignition, fuel injection and engine management systems can lead to a dangerous over-rich air-fuel mixture, fraught with overheating of the catalytic converter. If a misfire occurs, the operation of the vehicle should be suspended until the causes of the malfunction are eliminated - the fuel that has not warmed up during the misfire from the combustion chamber enters the converter, where it can easily ignite (for the same reason, starting the engine by towing or pushing should be avoided).
- Monitor fuel consumption, try not to run out of fuel, usually associated with misfiring (see previous point).
- Start driving only after the engine has warmed up to normal operating temperature.
