Anti-lock brake system (ABS) (Mercedes-Benz M-Class W163)

0
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents premature wheel locking by continuously controlling their rotation speed during braking by modulating the hydraulic fluid pressure in each of the brake mechanisms. The system is activated automatically when the car accelerates to a speed of over 8 km/h.

Note: A fairly noticeable pulsation of the foot brake pedal during hard braking is associated with the activation of ABS and should not cause concern - continue to press the pedal.

When LOW RANGE mode is activated for off-road driving, ABS is switched to a special operating mode in which, when the vehicle slows down to a speed below 30 km/h, the front wheels are periodically locked in order to reduce the braking distance.

Attention! Remember that switching the ABS to a special operating mode for off-road driving can lead to "diving" of a slow-moving vehicle, significantly reducing its controllability!
