The mechanism for adjusting the camshaft that controls the intake valves
1 – camshaft sprocket; 2 – mounting flange; 3 – support plate with gear; 4 – spring; 5 – plunger; 6 – retaining ring
1. Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC and check that all the timing marks are aligned with the pointers.
2. Remove the upper drive chain cover.
3. Apply alignment marks to the camshaft sprocket and drive chain.
4. On the front side of the camshaft that controls the intake valves, use a wrench to secure the bearing from turning by the chamfers, unscrew the bolt and remove the bearing (see fig. Unscrewing the camshaft bearing mounting bolt, Removing the bearing from the camshaft).
5. Having secured the camshaft from turning, unscrew the nut from the front end of the shaft and remove the washer (see fig. Unscrewing the nut from the front end of the camshaft, Removing the washer from the front end of the camshaft).
6. On 3.0L engines, remove the left-hand threaded bolt and drive chain idler sprocket.
7. On 2.8L and 3.2L engines, unscrew the bolts and remove the camshaft sprocket that controls the exhaust valves.
8. Remove the drive chain, sprocket and mounting flange from the intake camshaft (see fig. Removing the sprocket from the camshaft, Removing the mounting flange from the camshaft).
9. Remove the three bolts and remove the support plate from the camshaft gear (see fig. Unscrewing the support plate mounting bolts).
10. If necessary, remove the retaining ring at the rear of the base plate and remove the plunger and spring (see Fig. Removing the retaining ring from the rear of the support plate, Adjusting mechanism of the camshaft controlling the intake valves).
Installation
1. Clean all previously removed parts and check their condition.
2. Install the support plate with gear onto the front end of the camshaft, aligning the hole in the support plate with the camshaft pin, and secure the support plate with bolts.
3. After aligning the working grooves, install the mounting flange onto the support plate.
4. Having aligned the working grooves, install the sprocket on the camshaft.
5. Install the drive chain onto the sprocket according to the previously applied marks.
6. On 2.8L and 3.2L engines, align the timing marks on the chain and sprocket and install the sprocket onto the camshaft that controls the exhaust valves.
7. On a 3.0L engine, install the intermediate drive chain sprocket.
8. Place a washer on the front end of the camshaft that controls the intake valves, screw in the bolt and tighten it to the specified torque.
9. Install the bearing by aligning the cylindrical pin in the bearing with the end on the plunger and secure it with the bolt.
10. Install the upper drive chain cover.
Solenoid
Removal
Location of solenoid mounting bolts

1. Remove the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the cover from the front of the cylinder head cover and disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
3. Remove the bolts and solenoid from the timing chain cover (see fig. Location of solenoid mounting bolts).
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
