Examination
1. Press the brake pedal several times with the engine off to create the same pressure in the vacuum booster cavities, close to atmospheric. At the same time, by the force applied to the pedal, determine whether the valve body is jammed. Stop the brake pedal in the middle of its travel and start the engine. If the vacuum booster is in good condition, the brake pedal should move forward after starting the engine. If the pedal does not move forward, check the fastening of the hose tip, the fastening connections of the flange of the tip in the booster, the condition of the hose and the nipple. On cars with diesel engines, check the operability of the vacuum pump.
Removal
Caution! When installing the brake booster, it is necessary to use new mounting nuts.
1. Remove the brake master cylinder.
2. Unscrew the union nut and disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster.
3. Remove the lower instrument panel trim on the driver's side.
4. Remove the spring clip and remove the pin securing the brake pedal to the brake booster pushrod.
5. In the car's interior, unscrew the four mounting nuts and remove the brake booster from the engine compartment.
Installation
1. Before installing the brake booster, check the condition of the gasket on the rear of the brake booster. If the gasket is damaged, replace it.
2. Install the brake booster to the engine compartment bulkhead.
3. While working inside the vehicle, check that the tip of the brake booster pushrod is aligned with the hole in the brake pedal. Screw in the four brake booster mounting nuts and tighten them to the specified torque.
4. Lubricate the brake booster tip mounting pin to the brake pedal, insert it into place and secure it with the mounting bracket.
5. Install the driver's side lower instrument panel trim.
6. Connect the vacuum hose to the brake booster and secure with the union nut, tightening it to the specified torque.
7. Install the master cylinder. Start the engine and check the brake booster and hoses for leaks.
