Using a screwdriver inserted through the mounting bolt hole to adjust the position of the parking brake pads
Adjusting the position of the parking brake pads
To adjust the position of the parking brake pads, it is necessary to rotate the adjusting ring, which compresses or unclenches the brake pads.
1. Slowly fully depress the parking brake pedal while counting the number of clicks emitted by the ratchet. When the handbrake is properly adjusted, 7 to 8 clicks should be heard. If the number of clicks is less than 4 or more than 11, adjust the parking brake.
2. Remove one bolt from each rear wheel, then raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on jack stands.
3. The parking brake cable adjuster is mounted above the driveshaft at the rear cable junction. Check that the parking brake pedal is fully released, then unscrew the cable adjuster just enough to allow maximum cable movement.
4. Rotate the left rear wheel until the wheel bolt hole is 45°back from vertical. Recheck that the parking brake is fully released, then insert a screwdriver through the wheel bolt holes and spread the parking brake pads by turning the adjuster ring up. After the wheel is completely braked, turn the adjuster ring in the opposite direction by 5 to 6 teeth so that the wheel can rotate freely (see fig. Using a Screwdriver Inserted Through the Bolt Hole to Adjust the Position of the Parking Brake Pads, Adjusting the Position of the Parking Brake Pads).
5. Adjust the position of the parking brake pads on the right rear wheel in the same way, only in this case it is necessary to turn the adjusting wheel in the opposite direction.
6. By turning the adjuster on the parking brake cable, adjust the operation of the parking brake mechanism so that the braking of the wheels occurs at the 7th click of the ratchet mechanism.
7. After adjustment, lower the vehicle and screw in the wheel bolts.
