Using a screwdriver inserted through the mounting bolt hole to adjust the position of the parking brake shoes

Adjusting the position of the parking brake shoes

To adjust the position of the parking brake pads, you need to rotate the adjusting ring, which compresses or decompresses the brake pads.
1. Slowly press the parking brake pedal all the way down, counting the number of clicks emitted by the ratchet mechanism. If the handbrake is adjusted correctly, 7-8 clicks should be heard. If the number of clicks is less than 4 or more than 11, adjust the parking brake.
2. Remove one mounting bolt from each rear wheel, then raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands.
3. The parking brake cable adjuster is mounted above the driveshaft at the rear cable junction. Make sure the parking brake pedal is fully released, then back off the cable adjuster until the cables have maximum travel.
4. Turn the left rear wheel to a position where the wheel bolt hole is set 45° back from the vertical position. Check again that the parking brake is completely released, then insert a screwdriver through the wheel bolt holes and spread the parking brake shoes apart by turning the adjuster ring upward. After the wheel is completely braked, turn the adjuster ring back 5 - 6 teeth so that the wheel can rotate freely (see fig. Using a screwdriver inserted through the mounting bolt hole to adjust the parking brake shoe position, Adjusting the parking brake shoe position).
5. Adjust the position of the parking brake pads on the right rear wheel in the same way, but in this case you need to turn the adjusting wheel in the opposite direction.
6. By turning the adjuster on the parking brake cable, adjust the operation of the parking brake mechanism so that the wheels are braked at the 7th click of the ratchet mechanism.
7. After making the adjustment, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel mounting bolts.
