1. Place the hood in a vertical position.
2. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
3. Remove the lower engine shield.
4. Drain the oil from the engine.
5. Drain the coolant.
6. Remove the air filter with the cold air intake.
7. Remove the radiator by pressing the spring clips at the top of it.
8. On vehicles with a power steering system, remove the power steering pump.
9. On vehicles with power steering, use a syringe to suck out the fluid from the power steering reservoir and disconnect the hoses from the power steering pump.
10. Disconnect the throttle actuator rod.
11. Disconnect the hoses from the engine supplying and draining the liquid to the radiator, heater and expansion tank.
12. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the fuel system components.
13. Disconnect the fuel supply and drain hoses from the pressure regulator and fuel metering device or from the carburetor.
14. Remove the throttle linkage.
15. On vehicles with automatic transmission, remove the control pressure control rod.
16. Disconnect the wires from the starter and generator. Disconnect the low-voltage wires from the ignition distributor and the high-voltage wire going to the ignition coil.
17. Disconnect the wires from all sensors and, on engines with a fuel injection system, from the throttle valve limit switch and from the air flow meter pressure plate position sensor.
18. Remove the diagnostic connector and disconnect the TDC sensor wire from the rear of the connector.
19. Disconnect the jumper wire to the engine ground.
20. Disconnect the propeller shaft from the secondary shaft flange of the gearbox.
21. Depending on the configuration, remove the engine shock absorber and front buffer.
22. Loosen the bolts securing the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and remove the bracket securing the exhaust pipe to the gearbox.
23. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose from the fitting on the body.
24. On vehicles with automatic transmission, disconnect the positive shift solenoid valve rod; disconnect the gear shift rod from the lever; disconnect the starter lock switch connector with a screwdriver inserted between the latch and the wires; unscrew the engine load sensor connector.
25. Unscrew the bolts securing the engine mount brackets to the front cross member and the gearbox mount bracket to the rear cross member.
26. Attach the hoist straps to the engine eyebolts.
27. Remove the rear cross member.
28. Tilt the power unit back at an angle of approximately 45° and remove it from the compartment, avoiding damage to the oil pump.
29. Remove the power unit.
