- 1. Making repeated unsuccessful attempts to start the engine, or leaving the lighting devices on for a long time with the engine turned off;
- 2. Violation of the serviceability of the functioning of the charge system (the alternator drive belt is loose or broken, the connecting wiring is damaged, or the alternator itself is faulty);
- 3. Malfunction of the battery itself (the electrolyte level has dropped or the battery has expired).
When starting the engine from an external power source, attention should be paid to observing some special precautions:
- 1. Do not try to start the engine from a frozen battery - warm it up first;
- 2. On models with a gasoline engine, start the engine from an auxiliary power source only with a cold power unit and catalytic converter;
- 3. Do not start using a device for accelerated charging of the battery;
- 4. Before connecting the auxiliary battery, make sure that the ignition is off;
- 5. Use only cables of sufficient cross-section with insulated terminals;
- 6. Make sure that all consumers of electricity (lighting and heating devices, windshield wipers, etc.) were also turned off;
- 7. Put on protective gloves and goggles;
- 8. Make sure that the auxiliary battery has the same output voltage as that installed on your vehicle;
- 9. If a battery installed in another vehicle is used as an auxiliary power source, ensure that the vehicles NEVER come into contact with each other;
- 10. The engine of the car, from the battery of which the start is made, must be idling;
- 11. Make sure the transmission is in neutral (RKPP), or transferred to the position «R» (AT);
- 12. Remove the ventilation covers from the discharged battery and cover the openings with a rag.
Connect the end of the red wire from the special kit to the positive terminal of the dead battery. Connect the other end of the red wire to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery.
The wires must be connected in the order shown in the illustration (note that the negative wire from the auxiliary power supply is connected not to the terminal of the dead battery, but to the mass of the power unit of the emergency vehicle).
A - dead battery
B - Battery from which the start is made
X - Mass of the power unit of the emergency vehicle
The battery is placed in a special niche in the right side of the luggage compartment of the car.
Connect the black wire to the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery, connect the other end to a good ground point on the starting engine block (bolt or bracket), as far away from the battery as possible.
Make sure that the connecting wires do not come into contact with moving components in the engine compartments of both vehicles (fan impeller, drive belts, etc.).
Follow the standard engine start procedure. Leave the engine running at idle. In order to prevent voltage surges at the time of disconnecting the wiring, turn on the rear window defroster and heater fan, then disconnect the wires in the reverse order of their connection (see above). At the end of the procedure, turn off unnecessary electrical consumers.
