The vehicle identification number can be found in a special viewing window on the left under the windshield, in addition, the number is stamped on the right longitudinal beam of the vehicle frame, and is also mentioned on the manufacturer's plate (see below).
The following information is encrypted in the vehicle identification number:
1 and 19 — Icons with the image of the Mercedes-Benz trademark (star) - indicate the beginning and end of the VIN (presence is optional)
2-4 — International code of the manufacturer
5-10 — Model serial number (163.113: ML 270 CDI, 163.128: ML 400 CDI, 163.136: ML 230, 163.154: ML 320, 163.157: ML 350, 163.172: ML 430, 163.174: ML 55 AMG, 163.175: ML 500)
11 — Steering
12 — Manufacturer's code (AE: Sindelfingen, FH: Bremen, J: Rastatt, T: Karmann (Osnabrueck), X: Graz)
13-18 — Factory number
Nameplate
The location of the nameplate is shown in the illustration. The plate indicates the vehicle's VIN, as well as the permissible weight loads. For more information, please contact the Mercedes-Benz representative offices.
Powertrain number
On the ML 320, 400 CDI, 500 and 55 AMG models, the engine number is located on the right rear (in the direction of movement) powertrain parts, on 270 CDI models - in the left rear.
