Starting the engine of a car with an automatic transmission by towing (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 903)

Starting the engine from a tugboat must be carried out in the following order:

• turn the key in the ignition switch briefly to the right (start position) and release (ignition remains on);
• move the selector to position N and accelerate the car;
• switch to position 2 and only when the engine starts to turn, press the fuel supply control pedal;
• after starting the engine, immediately move the selector lever back to position N.

If the engine does not start within a few seconds, do not leave the selector in position 2, but switch it back to position N until you try again. Failure to do so may result in damage to the gearbox.
