Removal and installation of the automatic transmission housing (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 903)

Sludge collects in the automatic transmission oil pan. For a vehicle with high mileage, it is recommended to remove and thoroughly clean the oil pan. This operation does not require any special tools or much experience. Removal and installation of the crankcase must be carried out in the following order:

• move the selector to position P, place the car on supports;
• unscrew the drain plug in the crankcase and drain the fluid as described above;

• unscrew bolts 2 (figure 345) and remove the oil pan 3. Remove the gasket 1;
• clean the pan thoroughly and install in the reverse order of removal, using a new gasket. Tighten the mounting bolts to 7 Nm;
• tighten the drain plug to 14 Nm and fill with fluid as described earlier.
