1. Remove the power unit.

2. Disconnect the gearbox from the engine.

3. Place the engine on the stand.

4. Remove the generator, starter, intake and exhaust manifolds, and power steering pump from the engine.

5. Remove the cylinder head.

6. Remove the oil dipstick.

7. Lock the flywheel with a lock and unscrew the crankshaft pulley mounting bolts.

8. Remove the engine oil pan.

9. Remove the water pump.

10. Loosen the crankshaft pulley hub mounting bolt.

11. Remove the pulley from the hub and take out the hub.

12. Remove the camshaft drive cover.

On M 102 engines



1. Remove the oil pump cover and take out the gears.

2. Remove the ignition distributor sensor.

3. Unscrew the locking bolt of the intermediate shaft thrust half ring.

4. Remove the thrust half ring and take out the intermediate shaft.



5. Remove the retainer from the flywheel.

6. Loosen the flywheel mounting bolts and remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.

7. Turn the engine over and remove the connecting rod caps. Make sure the marks are present (cylinder numbers) from the intake manifold side on the connecting rod caps.

8. Remove the pistons with connecting rods through the cylinders and place the connecting rod caps in accordance with the cylinder numbering.

9. Remove the piston pin by removing the retaining ring.

10. Mark the piston, connecting rod and piston pin.

11. Remove the oil pump drive spacer.

12. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.

13. Remove the crankshaft main bearing caps.

14. Remove the crankshaft from the bearing seats and remove the liners.

15. Check the condition of the oil pump if necessary.

16. Clean and check the condition of all parts.
