Pic. 211. Removing and installing the front wheel hub: 1 - shock absorber strut; 2 - bolt, 300–320 Nm; 3 - steering knuckle; 4 - hex nut, 120–130 Nm; 5 - steering rod; 6 - hex nut, 280–300 Nm; 7 - transverse lever
To remove the steering knuckle, you must first dismantle the hub. The related work is described below. The appearance of the steering knuckle is shown in fig. 211. For work, a puller is required to press out the ball pins of the tie rod end and the ball joint. Removing the steering knuckle must be carried out in the following order:
- unscrew the nut of the tie rod end and take it to the side, pressing out the ball pin;
- substitute the jack under the transverse lever and raise it by 10 mm to unload from the force of the spring;
Pic. 208. Mounting the shock absorber strut from below
- unscrew the four bolts of the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle (see fig. 208) and separate the parts;
- from the lower side of the transverse lever, unscrew the nut of the ball joint pin and press the ball pin out of the lever with a puller;
- remove the transverse lever;
- assembly is carried out in reverse order. The tightening torques are given in subsection. «Installation of the transverse arm».
