Figure 211. Removing and installing the front wheel hub: 1 — shock absorber strut; 2 — bolt, 300–320 Nm; 3 - steering knuckle; 4 - Hexagonal nut, 120-130 Nm; 5 - steering rod; 6 - Hexagonal nut, 280-300 Nm; 7 — transverse lever
To remove the steering knuckle, you must first remove the hub. The relevant works are described below. The appearance of the steering knuckle is shown in the figure 211. The work requires a puller for pressing out the ball pins of the steering rod end and the ball joint. Removal of the steering knuckle must be carried out in the following order:
- unscrew the tie rod end nut and move it to the side, pressing out the ball pin;
- place a jack under the transverse arm and raise it by 10 mm to relieve the spring force;
Figure 208. Fastening the shock absorber strut from below
- unscrew the four bolts securing the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle (see figure 208) and separate the parts;
- from the bottom of the wishbone, unscrew the ball joint pin nut and use a puller to press the ball joint pin out of the wishbone;
- remove the wishbone;
- assembly is carried out in reverse order. Tightening torques are given in subsection. "Installing the transverse arm".
