- check the pressure plate and casing for damage and deformation. If they are found, replace the assembled parts;
- check the condition of the springs and splines of the driven disk hub. Oiled disc linings cannot be cleaned, and in this case the disc must be replaced;
- check the degree of wear of the linings with a vernier caliper. If the distance between the top surface of the lining and the rivet head is less than 30 mm, the disk must be replaced. Replacement is also necessary when the specified degree of wear is soon reached;
Pic. 176. Checking the driven disk for runout
- To check the driven disc for runout, mount it on a suitable pin or clutch shaft in a lathe. Place the measuring device on a suitable stand next to the disc so that the control probe of the device rests on the edge of the disc - on the outer edge (pic. 176). Slowly turn the disk and watch the readings of the device. If the runout exceeds 0.5 mm, the disc can be carefully straightened with pliers or must be replaced;
- check the ease of movement of the hub of the driven disk along the splines of the shaft. To do this, put the disc on the shaft and, holding the edges with your thumb and forefinger, rotate it and move it in the transverse direction. If the play is more than 0.4 mm, the splines are worn out. As a rule, the cause is in the driven disk;
- if there is any doubt about the degree of wear of the lining of the driven disk, they should be measured with a vernier caliper. The thickness of each lining must be at least 2.6–3.0 mm;
Pic. 177. Checking the degree of wear of the petals of the diaphragm spring
- check for wear on the diaphragm spring petals (pic. 177). If their ends are worn by more than 0.3 mm, it is necessary to replace the clutch assembly. All petals of the spring should be at the same level, if necessary, they can be bent with pliers;
Pic. 178. Checking the deformation of the working surface of the pressure plate
- attach a ruler to the working surface of the pressure plate, as shown in fig. 178 and use a feeler gauge to measure the internal clearance. If it exceeds 0.3 mm, replace the clutch assembly.
