- check the pressure plate and housing for damage and deformation. If any are found, replace the parts as a whole;
- check the condition of the springs and splines of the driven disk hub. Oily disc linings cannot be cleaned and the disc must be replaced in this case;
- check the degree of wear of the linings using a caliper. If the distance between the top surface of the pads and the rivet head is less than 30 mm, the disc must be replaced. Replacement is also necessary when the specified degree of wear is quickly reached;
Figure 176. Checking the driven disk for runout
- to check the driven disk for runout, secure it to a suitable rod or clutch shaft in a lathe. Place the measuring device on a suitable stand next to the disk so that the control probe of the device is adjacent to the edge of the disk - to the outer edge (figure 176). Turn the disk slowly and watch the instrument readings. If the runout exceeds 0.5 mm, the disc can be carefully straightened with pliers or it should be replaced;
- check the ease of movement of the driven disk hub along the shaft splines. To do this, place the disk on the shaft and, holding the edges with your thumb and forefinger, rotate and move it in the transverse direction. If the clearance is more than 0.4 mm, the splines are worn. As a rule, the reason is in the slave disk;
- if there is any doubt about the degree of wear of the driven disk linings, they should be measured with a caliper. The thickness of each overlay should be at least 2.6–3.0 mm;
Figure 177. Checking the degree of wear of the diaphragm spring petals
- check the diaphragm spring petals for wear (figure 177). If their ends are worn by more than 0.3 mm, the clutch assembly must be replaced. All spring petals should be at the same level, if necessary they can be bent with pliers;
Figure 178. Checking the deformation of the working surface of the pressure plate
- apply a ruler to the working surface of the pressure plate as shown in the figure 178, and measure the internal clearance with a feeler gauge. If it exceeds 0.3 mm, replace the clutch assembly.
