The models presented in this publication are equipped with Mercedes-Benz diesel engines of 2.3 and 2.9 liters. Models 208D, 308D and 408D are equipped with a 58 kW four-cylinder engine (79 hp) at 3800 min–1, which belongs to the 601 engine family. Other models are equipped with a 2.9-liter turbocharged engine. In this case, we mean a five-cylinder engine, which is structurally similar to a four-cylinder engine. It develops a power of 90 kW (122 hp) at 3800 min–1 and belongs to the 602 family. Later, another 75 kW engine was added to this family (102 hp) at 3400 min–1 (models 210D, 310D and 410D). This engine is turbocharged with air-to-air aftercooling.
All of these engines have proven themselves well on previous models, so they are also installed on other models of Mercedes-Benz cars. The identification feature is the last two digits in the model designation: for example, designations ending in «08», they say that the car has a 2.3-liter engine. Designations ending in «12», indicate the presence of a 2.9-liter engine.

Models 210D, 310D and 410D are equipped with engines with a working volume of 2.9 liters, a power of 75 kW (102 hp). The numbers following the model numbers provide additional vehicle identification required by the workshop.
The described engines are also equipped with minibuses, which, depending on the type of engine and the number of seats, are designated TL12C, TL13, TL14C, TL16 and TL17C.

The front suspension is made on a single transverse leaf spring. The lower wishbone has ball joints on the outer sides. The telescopic shock absorber is bolted from below to the steering knuckle, and from above to the car body. An anti-roll bar connecting both wishbones complements the front wheel suspension design.
The rear axle is unified with previous models and is a rigid beam suspended on two leaf springs and two hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers. The rear wheels are equipped with disc brakes. Disc brakes of the front and rear wheels, together with a vacuum brake booster, form the braking system of the car. The vacuum required for the operation of the vacuum brake booster is created by a vacuum pump.
Depending on the model of the vehicle, or at the request of the buyer, an anti-lock braking system can be installed on the car (ABS). In addition, the car can be equipped with an automatic brake differential (ABD). Anti-lock braking system and automatic brake differential (ABS/ ABD) installed as standard on all vehicles with a 122 hp engine. and minibuses. To drive the car, a rack and pinion steering with hydraulic booster is provided.
