Traditionally rectilinear body shapes, completely uncharacteristic of modern off-road passenger cars, give the MB G-class SUV a unique external flavor and a special appeal that is inaccessible to the vast majority of its today's competitors.
The body is mounted on a curved ladder frame with increased torsional rigidity and connected to it by means of bolts on rubber bearings.
All models are equipped with the Mercedes-Benz 722.6 series automatic transmission.
All-wheel drive is made non-switchable. The design of the two-stage transfer case provides for a center differential lock mechanism. The transfer case is fully synchronized, so you can switch its steps while driving. There are also mechanisms for forced blocking of both cross-axle differentials - the driver can block them (in a certain sequence) pressing the buttons on the center console.
The front and rear suspensions are independent with solid axles, organized by means of telescopic shock absorbers, separately installed coil springs, trailing arms, diagonal rods and anti-roll bars.
The steering gear is organized according to the scheme «trapezoid» using a hydraulically reinforced worm gear with circulating balls and a safety adjustable steering column.
To ensure driving safety, the vehicles are equipped with an electronic anti-skid system included as standard (ESP), traction control (4-ETS), emergency brake booster (BAS) and anti-lock brakes (ABS).
The standard brake system is hydraulic, dual circuit with vacuum boost. The front brake mechanisms are disc, ventilated, with a fixed caliper, the rear ones are also disc brakes with floating calipers. The parking brake drive is manual with access to the shoe assemblies of the brake mechanisms of the rear wheels.
