This Manual covers some of the latest modifications of Mercedes-Benz SUV G-class (W463) vehicles equipped with modern V-shaped six-cylinder - 112.945 (G320) - and eight-cylinder - 113.962/982 (G500 and G55 AMG) - petrol engines, as well as in-line five-cylinder - 612.965 (G270 CDI) - and V-shaped eight-cylinder - 628.962 (G400 CDI) - diesel engines. The models in question have been on the market since 1999 and are available in three versions: Long-base station wagon, short-base station wagon and convertible.

Traditionally rectilinear body shapes, completely uncharacteristic of modern all-terrain passenger cars, give the MB G-class SUV a unique exterior color and special appeal, unavailable to the vast majority of its current competitors.

The body is fixed to a curved ladder frame with increased torsional rigidity and is connected to it by means of bolts on rubber supports.

All models are equipped with a 722.6 series automatic transmission from Mercedes-Benz.

The all-wheel drive is non-disconnectable. The design of the two-stage transfer case includes a mechanism for locking the interaxle differential. The transfer case is fully synchronized, so its stages can be switched while driving. There are also mechanisms for forced locking of both interwheel differentials - the driver can lock them (in a certain sequence) by pressing the keys on the center console.

The front and rear suspensions are independent with solid axles, organized by means of telescopic shock absorbers, separately installed coil springs, longitudinal levers, diagonal rods and anti-roll bars.



The steering drive is organized according to the "trapezoid" scheme using a hydraulically reinforced worm gear with circulating balls and a trauma-safe adjustable steering column.

To ensure road safety, the vehicles are equipped with the standard electronic anti-skid system (ESP), anti-slip system (4-ETS), emergency braking booster (BAS) and anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The standard brake system is hydraulic, dual-circuit with vacuum booster. The front brake mechanisms are disc, ventilated, with a fixed caliper, the rear ones are also disc with floating calipers. The parking brake drive is manual with an output to the shoe assemblies of the rear wheel brake mechanisms.
