Disconnecting the battery (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 903)

When performing any work on electrical equipment, it is necessary to first disconnect the battery. On modern vehicles this is a safety precaution to avoid damaging electronic components. Therefore, when carrying out any work, special attention should be paid to the following:

• the positive and negative wires of the battery can easily be confused. In case of doubt, check the polarity of the circuit to the battery or provide marking of the wires;
• the negative (ground) battery cable should be disconnected first;
• if your car radio has an anti-theft code, make sure you have the code on hand before disconnecting the battery. When the battery is disconnected, this code, which is important for the operation of the radio, is erased, so the next time you connect it, you will need to enter it again. All previously programmed radio stations are also erased, so they must be programmed again;
• some alarms are triggered when the battery is disconnected. For this reason, you should first figure out how to turn them off before disconnecting the battery.
