Pic. 258. Tie rod connection with steering knuckle lever: 1 - hex nut; 2 — the hinge of a tip of steering draft; 3 - locknut; 4 - steering rod
When removing the tip, refer to Fig. 258. Replacement of tips of steering drafts is necessary for carrying out as follows:
- unscrew nut 1 and use a puller to disconnect the tip with the hinge from the steering knuckle. The figure shows the necessary puller, which can be replaced with a universal one. Do the same on the other side of the car. After loosening the lock nut 3, unscrew the tip with the hinge from the left link. When unscrewing, count the number of revolutions (up to half a turn). Also, before unscrewing, you can make a mark with a felt-tip pen on the thread of the tip. When installing, the tip should be screwed in by the same number of revolutions that is necessary to maintain the setting of the toe angle;

- detach case 1 (pic. 260) steering control from the inside by loosening and pulling off clip 2. On the outside of the rod, also loosen the clip and pull off the cover. When installing, tighten the clamps with a torque of 10–12 Nm;
- put a new boot on the tie rod and fasten it on the inside with a large clip. Straighten the cover without twisting, and fasten the outside with a small clip;
- screw the tip to the rod. If an old tip is installed, screw it in to its previous position; if new, screw in to approximately the same position;
- clean the hinge pin from grease and oil and insert into the conical hole of the fist. Screw on the nut and tighten with a torque of 120-130 Nm;
- install the wheels, lower the car, tighten the wheel bolts to 160-180 Nm. Check the toe-in as described in the relevant subsection, or have the toe-in angle checked by a workshop.
