Pic. 257. Location of the power steering fluid reservoir
The power steering uses a spool operating in the cylinder. Depending on the direction of rotation of the steering wheel, fluid is applied to the spool on one side or the other under pressure, as a result of which the force required to turn is reduced. The hydraulic booster system uses a fluid similar to that poured into an automatic gearbox. On fig. 257 shows a separate fluid reservoir located next to the power steering pump drive belt.
The liquid from the tank through the valve is supplied by a vane pump installed in the system.
Before removing any steering parts, check their condition.
