Figure 257. Location of the power steering fluid reservoir
The power steering system uses a spool valve that operates in a cylinder. Depending on the direction of rotation of the steering wheel, the valve is pressurized by fluid on one side or the other, which reduces the force required to turn. The power steering system uses a fluid similar to that used in an automatic transmission. Figure 257 shows a separate fluid reservoir located next to the power steering pump drive belt.
The liquid from the tank is supplied through the valve by a vane pump installed in the system.
Before removing any steering components, their condition should be checked.
