Contents: Removal ↡ Installation ↡

Removal

1. Apply the parking brake, then raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands.

2. Loosen the tension of the auxiliary drive belt and remove the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley, after loosening the pulley mounting bolts.

3. To improve access to the power steering pump, remove the air intake hose.

4. After marking the location of the pulley, remove the bolts and remove the pulley from the power steering pump.

5. Clean the area around the power steering pump connections and label the hydraulic lines and hoses.

6. Unscrew the union nuts and disconnect the hoses from the pump. Close the ends of the hoses and the holes in the pump with plugs.

7. If present, unscrew the bracket from the rear of the pump.

8. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the power steering pump from the engine compartment.

9. If the pump is faulty, it must be repaired at a service station.

Installation

1. Install the power steering pump into place and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. If applicable, bolt the bracket to the rear of the pump.

2. Connect the hoses to the pump according to the markings and secure them with union nuts.

3. In accordance with the previously made markings, install the pulley on the power steering pump and secure it with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.

4. Install the auxiliary drive belt onto the power steering pump pulley and adjust its tension.

5. Fill the pump with fluid and bleed the hydraulic system. On Estate models with 6-cylinder petrol engines and turbocharged diesel engines, the self-levelling rear suspension system also needs to be bled.
