1 – hinge bolt; 2 – intermediate lever; 3 – gasket; 4 – washer; 5 – bushing; 6 – hinge housing; 7 – heat shield; 8 – Transverse steering rod; 9 – central steering rod

1. Apply the parking brake, then raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands.

2. Unscrew the nuts securing the ball joints of the central and transverse steering rods to the intermediate arm. Use a puller to remove the ball joints of the steering rods from the intermediate arm (see picture).

3. Unscrew the bolt and remove the heat shield.

4. Unscrew the nut from the intermediate arm pivot bolt and remove the washer. Remove the pivot bolt, then remove the intermediate arm together with the gasket from the hinge housing.

5. Check the intermediate lever for damage and replace it if necessary. Check the intermediate lever hinge bushings for wear and damage and replace them if necessary. Bushings can be replaced at home by knocking out the old bushings from the hinge housing and then installing new ones using a nut and bolt with large washers. Before installing the bushings, moisten them with soapy water.

Installation

1. Place a spacer on the top of the intermediate arm pivot, then install the intermediate arm and insert the pivot bolt. Place a washer on the pivot bolt and screw on a new nut, tightening it to the specified torque.

2. Clean the ball joint pins of the steering rods, then install them into the holes of the intermediate lever. Secure the ball joints with new nuts, tightening them to the required torque. Lower the car.
