1. Remove the accessory drive belt (4) (see Chapter Engine).
2. Loosen the fasteners and remove the pulley (5).
3. Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the fittings (3 and 2) - be prepared to collect any spilled fluid.
4. Release the electrical wiring clamps (1).
5. Remove the steering pump (6).
6. Thoroughly clean all components, replace defective parts.
7. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
8. Fill the power steering reservoir with fresh fluid and bleed the hydraulic system.
9. Replace the end cover, making sure the sealing gasket is seated correctly.
Models 463.246/249 (M113)
Steering pump installation details (models with M113 engines)

1. Remove the left air intake (1).
2. Jack up the car and place it on supports.
3. Drain the cooling system (see Chapter Routine care and maintenance).
4. Disconnect the cooling system hose (2) from the upper part of the radiator (3) and move it to the side - if necessary, prepare a replacement hose and its mounting clamp.
5. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
6. Remove the cover (10) and pump out the fluid from the power steering reservoir (11).

7. Disconnect the return hose (13) from the tank (11) - if necessary, prepare a replacement hose and its mounting clamp.
8. Unscrew the bolt (6) securing the tank (11) to the pump assembly casing.
9. Remove the supply hose retaining clip.
10. Remove the power steering reservoir (11) by pressing forward and then pulling upwards - prepare a replacement sealing ring.
11. Remove the accessory drive belt (7) from the pulley (8) of the steering pump (12).
12. Disconnect the expansion pressure hose (9).
13. Unscrew the mounting bolts (4) and remove the pump (12) from the holder.
14. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - do not forget to pour the required amount of fresh liquid into the tank to avoid emptying the pump.
15. Finally, bleed the power steering system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
Diesel models
Models 463.323 (M612)
Steering pump installation details (models with M612 engines)

1. Remove the cylinder head cover trim panels
2. Remove the accessory drive belt (see Chapter Engine).
3. Disconnect the air intake hose (1) from the mixing chamber (2) - prepare a replacement sealing gasket.
4. Pump out the hydraulic fluid from the power steering reservoir (4).
5. Disconnect the supply hose (5) from the tank (4) - prepare to collect any spilled liquid.
6. Disconnect the expansion hose (6), immediately seal the fitting, if necessary, prepare a replacement sealing ring (7).
7. Remove the steering pump (9), if necessary loosen the bolts (11) and remove the pulley (10).
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - do not forget to pour the required amount of fresh liquid into the tank to avoid emptying the pump.
9. Finally, bleed the power steering system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
Models 463.333 (M628)

1. Remove the air cleaner (1).
2. Remove the left air intake (2).
3. Jack up the car and place it on supports.
4. Remove the crankcase guard.
5. Drain the cooling system (see Chapter Routine care and maintenance).
6. Disconnect the hose (3) from the radiator and move it to the side - if necessary, prepare a replacement hose and its mounting clamp, get ready to collect any spilled liquid.
7. Remove the four mounting screws, remove the engine oil dipstick, remove the oil filler cap and dismantle the trim panel (4).
8. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
9. Remove the oil filter (6), drain the oil from it and install it back in place, after replacing the sealing gasket.
10. Remove the liquid heat exchanger (5) from the filter housing (20) - prepare a replacement sealing gasket.
11. Remove the oil filter housing (20).
12. Pump out the fluid from the power steering reservoir (7).
13. Disconnect from the tank and immediately plug the hoses (8) - prepare to collect any spilled liquid.
14. Release the fastening clamp (9) and, pulling upwards, remove the tank (7).
15. Loosen the bolt (15) of the tension roller (13), loosen the accessory drive belt (14) and remove it from the pulley (10) of the steering pump (11).
16. Disconnect and immediately plug the oil line (16).
17. Unscrew the two bolts and disconnect the left lower air duct (17) from the pump assembly (11).
18. Loosen the air duct fastening (21) on the cylinder head, then carefully, being careful not to damage it, press the sleeve back.
19. Loosen the bolts (18) securing the pump (11).
20. After pressing the tension roller (13), unscrew the lower bolt (19).
21. Unscrew the bolts securing the pump to the timing belt cover and holder.
22. After cutting the harness, release the electrical wiring and remove the steering pump (11).
23. If necessary, remove the drive pulley (10) from the pump assembly.
24. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - do not forget to pour the required amount of fresh liquid into the tank to avoid emptying the pump.
25. Bleed the power steering system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
26. Finally, clear the memory of the on-board diagnostic system processor (see Chapter Engine electrical systems).
