1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.

2. On models with the corresponding configuration (code ET2), activate the service mode of the TELE AID emergency call system (see Section Activation/deactivation of the service mode of the TELE AID emergency call system).

3. Turn on the auxiliary battery and connect it to the standard battery, then disconnect the negative cable from the latter.

4. Remove the steering wheel (see Section Removal and installation the steering wheel).

5. Remove the contact cable drum (A45) (see Section Removal and installation the steering wheel contact cable drum).

6. On models produced up to 30.06.02, press the clamps upwards, while simultaneously, by applying gentle pressure, separating the drum (A45) from the steering angle sensor (B24/8).

7. On models produced from 01.07.02, unscrew the bolt (1) and remove the sensor (B24/8) from the drum (A45).

8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - ensure correct jointing and secure fixation of the components.

9. If equipped accordingly, deactivate the service mode of the TELE AID system.

10. Activate the sensor (B24/8) by starting the engine and turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.

11. Finally, clear the memory of the on-board diagnostic system processor (see Chapter Engine electrical systems).
