
2. Turn the steering wheel back and forth through the open window. The steering wheel can have a maximum free play of a = 25 mm without moving the wheels.
3. If the steering wheel has a relatively large free play, you need to check the steering rods, steering gear and front axle play.

4. Move the tie rods (10) and the track rods (11) back and forth by hand firmly. The ball joints must not have any play. If so, replace the joints or track rods.
5. If the steering rods have no play, although the play on the steering wheel is too large, it is necessary to check the play of the steering gear or adjust it (work in a car repair shop).
6. Shine a light on the dust caps of the tie rod and track rod joints and check them for damage, paying attention to traces of grease on and around the seals.
7. If the dust cap is damaged, replace the corresponding joint together with the dust cap for safety. The dirt that has penetrated will certainly destroy the joint.
