Checking the oil level in the differential (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202)

0
The differential oil level should only be checked if leaks were found in this area during a visual inspection. There is no need to change the oil in the rear axle differential.

1. Perform a short test drive to allow the differential fluid to reach operating temperature.

2. Raise the vehicle horizontally.

2. Raise the vehicle horizontally.

3. Unscrew the oil filler plug (right arrow) use a 14-point wrench for hexagon socket bolts, such as HAZET 2760. Threaded drain plug (left arrow).

4. If a small amount of oil comes out, it is normal. Otherwise, check with your finger whether the oil level reaches the bottom of the hole. If not, add oil using a hand oiler.

Caution! In case of a relatively large oil leak, determine its causes and eliminate the malfunction.

Attention! Oil specification: SAE 90 hypoid transmission oil. Use only oil approved by Mercedes (indicated on the hand oiler).

Attention! For vehicles with automatic differential lock (the indicator is located on the rear axle cover) use only SAE 90 grade transmission oil for locking differentials.

Caution! Transmission oil is viscous, so do not pour too much at once. Accordingly, wait a pause and place a container underneath to catch the overflowing oil.

5. Tighten the oil filler plug to a torque of 50 Nm.
