Visual inspection of tightness (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202)

0
Possible leak locations are:
  • the point of separation between the engine block and the gearbox (flywheel seal/gearbox shaft seal);
  • driveshaft for gearbox;
  • threaded oil filler plug;
  • threaded drain plug.

When searching for a leak, proceed as follows:

1. Clean the transmission housing with a low temperature cleaner.

1. Clean the transmission housing with a low temperature cleaner.

2. Check the oil level. To do this, unscrew the threaded plug of the oil filler hole (1). The oil level should reach the lower edge of the filler hole; add transmission oil if necessary.

3. Tighten the oil filler plug securely to a maximum torque of 60 Nm.

4. Spray suspected leak areas with lime or talcum powder.

5. Test drive. To make the oil flow easily, drive on a highway for a distance of approximately 30 km.

6. Then lift the car and inspect the gearbox with a light to detect oil leaks.

7. Eliminate leaks immediately.
