Checking the oil level in the differential (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

The differential may also lose oil due to leaks. If traces of oil are regularly found in the place where the car is parked, be sure to check its level in the differential. If you pay attention to the condition of the differential only when extraneous noises appear, in most cases the entire unit will need to be replaced.

Sequence of works

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift or place it on stands.



2. Unscrew plug 3 (Fig. 6.18) of the filler hole with an internal hexagon (SW 14).

3. The oil level should reach the lower edge of the filler hole. Otherwise, add SAE 90 hypoid transmission oil and determine the cause of the drop in its level.
