The transmission is followed by a cardan shaft. It transmits torque to the rear wheel drive mechanism (differential). The cardan shaft runs through the center in a special tunnel in the bottom of the car and consists of two tubular shafts. The front shaft 4 (Fig. 6.15) is connected to the gearbox by means of an elastic coupling 2. The rear shaft 9 is connected to the drive pinion of the main transmission by a cardan joint 10 (constant velocity joint). The shafts are connected to each other by a locking nut 5, and a support bearing 7 is installed at the point of their connection. To avoid constant noise during shaft operation, the shaft is balanced.
