Checking the level
Checking the Automatic Transmission Fluid Level
6 — Liquid level indicator
6a - Locking lever
6b - Rod (top left illustration for models produced before 09.93.)
The fluid level in the automatic transmission is measured with the engine and transmission warmed up. To warm up the power unit to the required temperature, you can make a short (15 kilometers) trip.

1. Place the car on a horizontal surface, set the parking brake. To securely fix the car, place supports under the wheels.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. Press the foot brake pedal and carefully move the selector from position "P" to position "1" and then back to "P". Check for signs of external ATF leaks.
3. The fluid level dipstick is located at the rear of the transmission. Before removing the dipstick, carefully wipe the crankcase surface around it - dirt must not get inside the box.
4. Open the locking lever 6a (models up to 09.93.).
5. Press the rod (6b) (models from 10.93.) from the side in the direction of the arrow, remove both parts and the locking lever (6a).
6. Remove the fluid level indicator 6. Wipe it with a dry cloth.
7. Insert the pointer as far as it will go, pull it out again and check the fluid level. When the gearbox is cold (approximately 30°C), the ATF level should be between the marks "MIN" / "30" and "MAX" / "80". When the gearbox is warm (approximately 80°C), the level should be at the mark "MAX" / "80".
Note. If you measure the level when the power unit is cold, the result obtained will be lower than the real one. Be sure to check the level on a warm engine, since exceeding the maximum permissible fluid level can lead to failure of the gearbox. Add fluid through the guide tube of the measuring dipstick. Do not allow dirt to get inside the AT crankcase. Add only fresh fluid and only through a funnel (preferably equipped with a filter).
8. Add liquid in small portions, constantly checking the level.
9. After you have restored the fluid level in the box, return the dipstick to its place and turn off the engine.
10. If you have to frequently top up the fluid in the box, it means there is a leak somewhere. Fix it immediately.
Replacement of ATF and AT filter
Replacing transmission fluid and filter
1 - Drain plug in the pan
2 - Drain plug in the torque converter
3 - Pallet
5 - Oil filter
6 — Filter mounting bolt, pan mounting bolt
050 — Funnel
1. Set the gear selector lever to position "P" and tighten the parking brake lever.
2. Unscrew the drain plug (1) on the pan and the drain plug (2) on the torque converter. Fluid should only be removed when the transmission is warm.
3. Remove the oil pan (3) and oil filter (5).
4. Insert a 050 funnel into the dipstick guide tube hole. Fill the transmission with 4 liters of fresh ATF.
5. Start the engine and set the idle speed with the gear selector lever in position "P".
6. Alternately shift the AT selector lever to the RNDNR positions, holding it in each position for several seconds.
7. Check and adjust the fluid level.
