1 - Brake pads
2 - Protective cover
1. Jack up the front of the car and place it on jack stands. Remove the corresponding front wheel.
2. Press the brake pads away from the disc (1).
3. Using a plunger type dial gauge, measure the wheel bearing play. Compare the measurement result with the requirements Specifications.
4. Remove the protective cap (2) hub assembly and unlock the outer slotted nut.
5. Bolted to the hub locking key (717 589 00 31 00), unscrew the outer nut.
6. Remove the lock plate.
7. Loosen the inner slotted nut, then tighten it with an initial torque of 200 Nm.
Note. In the process of tightening the nut, the hub should be turned at least three times while tapping it with a soft-faced hammer (for shrinkage of bearing rollers).
8. Loosen the inner nut again and retighten it again, fully retracting the backlash of the pressure plate.
9. Loosen the nut again about 1/8 of a turn, leaving about 0.1 mm of play, then reinstall the lock plate.
10. After lubricating, tighten the outer nut - the nut should be turned with grooves towards the lock plate.
11. Measure the amount of play in the wheel bearing, then tighten the outer slotted nut to the required force and, having previously stuffed with grease, put the protective cap in place (2).
12. Squeeze the foot brake pedal several times to shrink the shoes, then install the wheel.
