Attention! When installing, it is necessary to use new nuts for fastening ball joints, central and tie rods and a new nut for the pitman arm clamp bolt.
Removing
Bolt location (1) and retaining ring (2) bipod attachment to steering gear
1. Apply the parking brake, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.
2. Unscrew the nuts securing the ball joint pins of the central and transverse steering rods to the steering gear bipod. Using a ball joint remover, remove the ball joint pins from the steering arm.
3. Unscrew the nut and remove the clamping bolt that secures the bipod to the steering gear, then remove the retaining ring (see picture).
4. Measure and record the distance between the upper edge of the bipod and the steering gear housing. Check that the alignment mark on the shaft is visible through the bipod clamp cut. Otherwise, mark.
5. Using a puller, remove the bipod from the steering shaft. Check the condition of the lower steering gear seal and replace if necessary.
Installation
1. Clean the splines of the steering shaft and bipod.
2. Coat the bipod splines with Loctite 270 blocking compound.
3. Install the bipod on the splines of the steering shaft. In this case, the alignment mark on the shaft should be visible through the bipod clamping slot.
4. Move the bipod along the shaft so that the distance between the upper part of the bipod and the steering gear housing is equal to the previously measured one.
5. Insert the bipod clamp bolt, then screw a new nut onto it and tighten to the required torque. Install the circlip into the groove of the shaft.
6. Install the tie rod ball joint trunnions in the bipod, screw new nuts on them and tighten them to the required torque. Lower the car.
