VN 9.020 1. Inlet air mass sensor B2/5
Purpose
The mass and temperature sensor of the incoming air is designed to issue a signal to the engine control unit about the amount and temperature of the incoming air.
Design
VN 9.021 Inlet air mass sensor: 1. Heated film type sensor; 2. Measuring channel; 3. Protective mesh; 4. Housing; 5. Electronic circuit housing; 6. Electrical connector; 7. Inlet air temperature sensor B2/5b1; 8. Inlet air mass sensor B2/5
Functioning
The electronic circuit in the intake air mass sensor controls the temperature of the heating resistor RN, which is 160°C higher than the intake air temperature measured by the thermistor RL. The temperature of the heating resistor RH is measured using the measuring resistor RS. If the temperature changes due to a change in the mass of passing air, then the electronic circuit 5 adjusts the voltage supplying the heating resistor RH in such a way as to compensate for the change in its temperature. This compensating voltage is used for transmission to the engine control unit as a sensor signal.
