Checking the temperature sensor (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

From the NTC sensor, the injection control device receives operational information about the engine temperature. The electrical resistance of the temperature sensor changes depending on the coolant temperature.



Remove the temperature sensor plug and measure the resistance of the sensor relative to ground with an ohmmeter.

Compare the measured value with the specified value on the graph. Example: the measuring device at 20°C should show 2.2-2.8 kOhm; at 80°C the device should show 290-370 Ohm.

Note: Always measure at two or more different coolant temperatures. The sensor can also be removed for testing.

If the specified value is not reached, replace the sensor.
