"Rain sensor"
Optionally, the vehicle can be equipped with the so-called «Rain sensor». It is installed on the inside of the windshield. Two optoelectronic elements react to the strength and intensity of rain and issue a command to increase (decrease) wiper frequency. The sensor is activated by a combined wiper, high beam and turn signal control switch. The driver can always follow the road more concentratedly if the problem of good visibility is solved for him «Rain sensor». The new Mercedes E-class is the first production car to be equipped with such a system.
Wiper blade wear
To guarantee its performance, the rubber wiper blade must be firmly pressed against the glass. Its shelf life is limited.
Over time, the brush wears out, exposure to the atmosphere and ultraviolet rays destroy the structure of the rubber. In addition, when driving, microscopic cracks and scratches form on the windshield, which affect the quality of glass cleaning. Therefore, in spring and autumn it is advisable to replace the wiper blades with new ones.
You can do almost all the maintenance of the windshield wiper yourself, in most cases you only need a screwdriver for this. If you have come to the conclusion that the problem with the windshield wiper is in the wiring, refer to the section «electrical equipment».
Checking the windshield wiper and washer
1. Press the combination switch knob on the left under the steering wheel. At the same time, the washer pump should start working, and the water nozzles on the hood will begin to spray water onto the windshield.
2. Turn the knob - the wiper blade will work. If it does not cleanly remove all the streaks of water from the windshield, then it's time to change it. As a rule, the replacement of brushes is required to be done every six months.
