Replacing transmission fluid and oil filter of automatic transmission (Mercedes-Benz Vito W638)

1. Set the gear selector lever to position 2. Wipe the surface around the plug 6 and unscrew it from the pan 3 (see figure 6.54). Replace sealing ring 8.

1. Drain pipe,
2. Drain plug,
3. Automatic transmission pan,
4. Lid,
5. Oil filler neck,
6. Cork,
7. Oil filter,
8. Sealing ring,
9. Rubber sealing ring.


3. Unscrew the drain tube 1 from the hole under the drain plug in the pan and drain the transmission fluid.

4. Remove caps 4 from oil filler neck 5. Remove plug 6.

5. Screw the drain tube 1 into the hole for the drain plug and screw it in.

6. Remove the oil pan 3 and replace the oil filter 7.

7. Install tray 3.

8. Attach the tester and determine the actual oil temperature.

9. Start the engine.

10. Apply the parking brake and shift gears, holding the gear selector lever in each position for a few seconds. Then move the gear selector lever to position "P".

11. Screw in drain plug 2.

12. With the engine idling, allow the transmission fluid to warm up to a temperature of 35 - 45°C.

13. Check the transmission fluid level while the engine is running.



14. Screw in drain plug 2.

15. Press plug 6 onto oil filler neck 5.

Transmission oil capacities:
  • first fill - 5.5 l;
  • oil change - 3.5 l.
