Figure 2.67. Identifying main bearing caps simplifies their installation.
2. Lubricate the main bearing cap mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 55 Nm + 90°.
3. Measure the hole diameters in directions A, B, C (see figure 2.68).
Figure 2.68. Measure the hole diameters in directions A, B, C.
4. Unscrew the bolts securing the covers. Install the liners into the covers and tighten the mounting bolts to the torque specified earlier (see figure 2.69). Don't scare the upper and lower liners.

5. Measure the inner diameter of the main bearing bore (see figure 2.70).
Figure 2.70. Measuring the diameters of the main bearing holes.
6. Unscrew the main bearing cap mounting bolts and remove the bearing shells.
7. Measure the diameter of the crankshaft main journal and determine the radial clearance in the main bearings (see figure 2.71).
Figure 2.71. Measuring the diameter of the crankshaft main journal.
Definition of radial clearance
Bore diameter with bearings installed - Crankshaft journal diameter = Radial clearance in main bearings
The radial clearance can be adjusted by replacing the covers.
