Ball joints (right and left between the wishbone and the hub housing) are installed in plastic inserts with long-term lubrication (Fig. 7.7). Plastic covers protect them from dirt and moisture. Ball joints do not require maintenance. A damaged mudguard means that the joint needs to be replaced. Untimely detection of damage to the mudguard means premature replacement of the joint, which otherwise does not require maintenance.
Sequence of works
1. Turn the wheels all the way in the appropriate direction.
2. Check the right and left hinge mudguard for damage. It should be compressed to detect hidden cracks.
3. A damaged mudguard cannot be replaced separately. The ball joint is replaced as an assembly.
