Ball joint caps — check (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

No special tools or devices are required.

Warning! Jacking up a vehicle or placing it on jack stands is dangerous. Therefore, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the safety precautions set out in the chapter "Jacking up a vehicle".


1. Place the front of the vehicle on jack stands.

2. Use a flashlight to check the condition of the dust caps on the ball joints of the tie rod ends and suspension on the right and left sides of the vehicle, paying attention to the absence of traces of grease on the surface of the caps and near them (see illustrations).

3. Replace the damaged cap. For safety reasons, replace the corresponding ball joint together with the cap (tip), because if dirt gets into it, it will certainly break the support.

4. Move the tie rods by hand in both directions. The ball joint of the corresponding tie rod end should not have any play. Otherwise, replace the tie rod end.
