Suspension and steering (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

In accordance with the maintenance plan, the following work must be performed on this unit:
  • Power steering hydraulic drive. Check the fluid level and top up if necessary. If the amount of fluid in the reservoir has decreased significantly, find out the reason.
  • Front suspension ball joints. Check the play and their fastening, as well as the condition of the dust caps.
  • Steering. Check the tightness and condition of the steering cuffs, as well as the play of the tie rod ends.
  • Cars up to and including identification number 515 389. Check the play of the rear suspension trailing arm support.
  • Inspect the chassis components for damage and corrosion.
  • VANEO. Check the tightness of the shock absorbers.

Warning: Jacking up or jacking up a vehicle can pose a risk of injury, so please read the safety precautions before attempting to do so.


1. Place the car on jack stands.

2. Inspect the following chassis parts for damage and corrosion using a flashlight:
  • rear suspension trailing arms;
  • front suspension wishbone bearings;
  • front suspension wishbones;
  • all side members.
