Gearbox. Main gear (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

In accordance with the maintenance plan, the following work must be performed on the specified units:
  • CV joint covers. Perform a visual inspection of the condition.
  • Gearbox and differential. Perform a visual inspection for leaks.
  • A210 cars. Change the oil in the manual transmission.

Attention! Before screwing in the drain plug, lubricate it with sealant. The tightening torque of the plug is 30 Nm. The filling volume of transmission oil in the gearbox is 1.8 liters.

  • VANEO, automatic transmission. Replace transmission oil and filter.

No special tools or devices are required.

Warning! Jacking up your vehicle may pose a risk of injury. Read the safety precautions for jacking up your vehicle and placing it on jack stands.


1. Place the vehicle on jack stands.

2. Vehicles with diesel engine. Remove the engine protection (mudguard), see the relevant chapter.

3. Make sure that the covers are free of porosity and cracks by shining a flashlight on them (see illustration). Pay special attention to the presence of traces of oil on and around the covers.

If the cover is bent inward or torn, replace it immediately.



4. Check the reliability of the fastening of the clamps of the 2 protective covers (see illustration 15.3).

5. Vehicles with diesel engines: Replace the engine splash guard, see the relevant chapter.

6. Lower the car onto its wheels.
